Description

The Cognitive Behavioural Tsunami: Managerialism, Politics, and the Corruptions of Science by Routledge offers a comprehensive critique of cognitive behavioural therapy's foundational claims and scientific legitimacy. This book challenges CBT's approach to understanding human suffering and examines how the discipline has become overly focused on measurable outcomes at the expense of deeper understanding. The author argues that CBT psychology has adopted a flawed scientific methodology that prioritises quantification above all else, resulting in what the book characterises as corrupt rather than merely flawed science. The analysis explores how neoliberalism and New Public Management have driven CBT's widespread adoption, revealing the political and economic forces shaping modern mental health treatment approaches. This critical examination is essential for psychologists, researchers, mental health professionals, and anyone questioning the dominant narrative surrounding cognitive behavioural interventions.
