Description

AfroSurrealism: The African Diaspora's Surrealist Fiction offers the first book-length exploration of AfroSurreal fiction. This Routledge publication examines the work of contemporary writers such as Edwidge Danticat, Tananarive Due, Nalo Hopkinson, Junot Diaz, Helen Oyeyemi, and Colson Whitehead. By building on traditional surrealist scholarship and black studies criticism, the text argues that we have entered a new era of the black novel. This era is defined by a deep investment in the cross sections of science, technology, history, folklore, and myth. As technology becomes ubiquitous, this study explores how these elements shape modern storytelling within the African Diaspora.
