Description
Experience Rossini's dramatic Biblical tale of Cyrus and Belshazzar in this 2013 Blu-ray recording from Opus Arte. The 20-year-old Rossini composed an expansive contralto role for the title character, written expressly for great Rossini interpreter Ewa Podles, whose natural affinity for the composer's idiom shines throughout. Set against the valour of the young warrior-leader Cyrus and the hubris of Belshazzar, this work weaves West-Eastern implications that resonate with contemporary audiences. The cast features Podles alongside two emerging stars of Rossini's repertoire, delivering performances that critics have praised for their vocal excellence and dramatic conviction. This region-free Blu-ray presentation brings the full theatrical spectacle and musical nuance of this rarely staged opera into your home.

Key Features

Ewa Podles performs the extended contralto role of Cyrus, which Rossini specifically crafted as his longest-ever contralto part.

Region-free Blu-ray format from Opus Arte allows playback on any compatible player worldwide.

The 2013 recording captures a complete performance of Rossini's full-length opera with orchestral accompaniment.

Features a cast of young Rossini specialists alongside Podles, bringing authenticity to period-appropriate interpretation.

Biblical narrative of Cyrus and Belshazzar provides dramatic weight with enduring West-Eastern cultural themes.
