Description

Experience the life and music of Ella Hanshaw (1934-2020) through this unique vinyl collection. Originally a young girl dreaming of country stardom in Procious, West Virginia, Hanshaw's songwriting evolved over 74 years into a profound spiritual and emotional journey. This compilation, lovingly assembled by her granddaughter, brings together rare home and church recordings that capture her authentic voice. Side A, titled Big Black Book, features original gospel songs performed solo or with the Hallelujah Hill Quartet. Side B, titled Little Black Book, presents her broken-hearted country songs, recorded in the quiet privacy of a back bedroom. This record offers a rare look at a lifetime of songwriting, moving from the sacred to the soulful.
