Psychology Press Personality: A Topical Approach - Psychology Press Theories & Research

This comprehensive personality psychology text separates theoretical foundations from empirical research, offering a distinctive approach that honours major theorists whilst grounding ideas in academic study. Rather than inserting brief biographical sketches of Jung, Adler and Freud into research-focused chapters, the book dedicates full chapters to each major theoretical framework, followed by separate chapters examining relevant research, controversies and emerging findings. This structure allows readers to grasp both the depth of classical personality theories and their contemporary empirical validation. Published by Psychology Press, the text bridges the traditional gap between abstract theory and measurable research outcomes, providing students and practitioners with a rigorous yet accessible exploration of how personality has been conceptualised, tested and understood across decades of psychological science. The topical organisation makes it ideal for courses requiring both historical context and current empirical evidence in personality study.
