Description

Bring the garden's own natural sponge into your home with Premier Seeds Direct Luffa Sponge Gourd Seeds. These vigorous climbing vines produce large fruits that can be dried into soft, eco-friendly sponges for bath, kitchen or craft use. For best results soak the seeds overnight, then sow - " deep in warm soil (65 degreesF or higher) about four weeks before the last frost. Expect germination in 18-22 days. Thin weaker seedlings and, once plants are 3-4 inches tall, harden them off before moving outdoors after all frost danger has passed. Position vines in a warm, sheltered spot with full sun and good drainage, and provide sturdy support as they can reach 20 ft. Harvest the mature fruits from late July to August. After drying, the fibrous interior makes a perfect, reusable sponge. Plant each vine at least 24" apart to give ample room for growth and to avoid competition for nutrients.
