Description

Explore a transformative era in music history with The Operas of Verdi, Vol. 3 from Oxford University Press. This volume examines a quarter-century of musical evolution, covering the establishment of grand opera on the Parisian model throughout Italy and the reform of the Conservatories. As cosmopolitan influences changed the musical landscape, Giuseppe Verdi produced his four final and most significant operas: Don Carlos, Aida, Otello, and Falstaff. This work tracks the development of these masterpieces through a period of shifting identities in Italian music, leading up to the arrival of the verismo style and the birth of a new Italian idiom. It is an essential resource for those studying the transition from traditional styles to the era of verismo.
