Description

Explore the rapid rise of radical-right behavior in Western democracies through the lens of political science. In The Normalization of the Radical Right, Vicente Valentim examines why political actions change much faster than underlying attitudes and preferences. Part of the Oxford Studies in Democratization series, this work introduces a norms-based theory of political supply and demand to explain these shifts. Valentim argues that the growth of radical-right behavior is driven by individuals who already held radical views but previously refrained from acting due to perceived social unacceptability. By analyzing how social norms influence the decision to act on existing beliefs, this book provides a new framework for understanding modern political movements and the changing landscape of democratic societies.
