Description

Explore the origins of scholarly preservation with Libraries Before Alexandria: Ancient Near Eastern Traditions. While the Library of Alexandria is often viewed as the starting point for centralized knowledge, this work examines the traditions that existed before it. It challenges the idea that such institutions were solely a product of Greek thought by looking at the history of literature and scholarly texts in the ancient world. This book provides a different perspective on the historical turning point that separates the ancient world from classical antiquity. By studying the scale and intent of these earlier collections, readers gain a deeper understanding of how humanity sought to amass and protect knowledge long before the famous Egyptian institution was established.
