Description
Experience the definitive version of the Babylonian Gilgamesh epic, the masterpiece of ancient Mesopotamian literature. This edition from Oxford University Press provides a comprehensive collection of all extant texts in one location. Since the last major critical edition seventy years ago, the available primary sources have nearly doubled, and this volume accounts for that massive increase in archaeological findings. This book includes twenty-three fragments published for the first time, offering a level of detail not found in previous works. The author has personally studied every available fragment to create a precise edition and translation. Whether you are a scholar of ancient history or a lover of epic poetry, this book serves as a vital resource for understanding one of the oldest stories in human history through its original cuneiform context.
