Secretly Canadian Piano Studies 337 - Willem Nyland Vinyl

Experience the unique musical legacy of Willem Nyland with Piano Studies 337 on vinyl. A Columbia-educated chemist and self-taught pianist, Nyland was a spiritual teacher in the tradition of George Gurdjieff. Following a split with Gurdjieff, Nyland established his own group in upstate New York, where his musical practice became a central part of his teachings. This collection captures the remarkable piano improvisations Nyland performed on a specially tuned baby grand piano. These sessions often followed Friday night lectures and were meticulously recorded and cataloged as part of his instructional work. The recordings offer a rare look into his improvisational style and the spiritual atmosphere of his upstate New York group. This new album release from Secretly Canadian brings these historical recordings to a new audience of listeners interested in experimental music and spiritual history.
