Description

This scholarly work by Sara Doghramji traces the history of the Syrian Orthodox community's educational institution from its founding in 1927 through to the present day. Following the expulsion of the Syrian Orthodox community from Edessa in 1924, refugees established themselves in Aleppo and created a school dedicated to preserving Syriac language instruction, liturgical melodies, and traditional prayers for their youth. The school, which became known as Bani Taghlib, represents a vital effort to maintain cultural and religious heritage during a period of significant displacement. Part of the Dar Mardin series on Christian Arabic and Syriac Studies from the Middle East, this volume provides an in-depth examination of how a diaspora community rebuilt and sustained its spiritual and educational traditions across eight decades of modern history.
