Description

Al-Maqrizi's monumental al-Habar an al-baSar, completed in 845/1442, remains one of the most significant historical works on pre-Islamic Iran. This fifth volume, meticulously edited by Jaakko Hameen-Anttila, traces the history of Persia from the Creation through the Parthian period, offering scholars and historians direct access to medieval Islamic historiography of the ancient Persian world. As Al-Maqrizi's final work before his death, it represents the culmination of decades of historical research and represents an essential primary source for anyone studying pre-Islamic Iranian civilisation, ancient Persian dynasties, and the development of historical writing in the Islamic world. Published by Brill as part of the Bibliotheca Maqriziana series, this scholarly edition provides the critical apparatus necessary for serious academic research into early Persian history and Islamic historiography.
