Description

Explore the unique history of Irish biblical scholarship with The Psalms in the Early Irish Church. This volume, part of the Journal for the Study of the Old Testament Supplement series, examines the creative and independent Irish exegetical tradition that was well established by 700 CE. Published by Bloomsbury, this work compiles eight studies by distinguished biblical scholar Martin McNamara. The research spans twenty-five years of study focused on the Latin biblical texts of the Psalter, including the Vulgate, Gallicanum, and Jerome's Hebraicum. Readers will gain insight into Irish commentaries from 600 CE onwards and learn about the Cathach of St Columba of Iona, the oldest Irish Vulgate text, which shows evidence of correction against the Irish recension of the Hebrew text.
