Description

Anouar Brahem returns with After the Last Sky, a poignant musical project released eight years after Blue Maqams. This collection features graceful chamber pieces for oud, cello, piano, and bass that explore metaphysical questions through sound. Drawing from traditional Arab music modes while engaging with diverse global influences, Brahem creates a unique sonic experience. This recording features acclaimed musicians including bassist Dave Holland and pianist Django Bates. The title is inspired by a line of verse from Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, asking "Where should the birds fly, after the last sky?" These compositions address broad resonances in a troubled time through subtle, thoughtful arrangements. This Verve release is an essential addition for fans of classical chamber music and world fusion.
