The reader of this book shall find a story that shows how art can move from one generation to another. This book includes a demonstration from real life about art movements including both Modern & Contemporary paintings. The paintings vary from oil, mixed media, and water color by artists from different generations in Egypt, The Middle East. Both prominent artists Mohamed Ezzeldin Hamouda and Zeinab Abdel Hamid were born in year 1919, while their daughter artist Khalda Hamouda was born in year 1953. Author of this book is Khalda Mohamed Ezzeldin Hamouda, at this time of publishing this book Khalda is seventy years old, her father artist Hamouda had passed away in November 1990 at age of seventy one, and her mother artist Zeinab Abdel Hamid had passed away in year 2002 at age of eighty three. The reader of this book shall discover how the concept of death influenced both artists Ezzeldin Hamouda and his daughter Khalda, the idea of the end of life was always present in their paintings, as if they wanted to create something that would last after they are gone away. Artist Zeinab Abdel Hamid had a different style than her husband an her daughter, she was completely expressionist, she had no attitude for spiritual paintings. Samples of her artworks are included in this book to show the reader the different styles of art works inside the same family. The book displays to the reader different images of paintings from The Middle East varying from oil, mixed media and water color paintings that are painted on canvas, on wooden board or on paper. Artist Zeinab Abdel Hamid used to create her paintings by using a mixed media of water color & ink on paper, making her figures distinguished in her own characteristic manner. After she accomplished her artworks she used to add a wooden board at the back of the paintings to ensure protection to the water color works, she also added a plastic glass from the front to save her water color paper against factors of aging, this gave her work more durability and a longer life. The author of this book also explained to fine arts students the different types of materials used in creating oil paintings, she also discussed some techniques of making oil paintings that she learned from her parents and from her long paintings experience. The book of “The Story of a Self-Thought Artist” is also interesting to those who loves to discover more about biographies and memoirs of artists of Modern & Contemporary Art in The Middle East & North Africa.
