Description

The design, synthesis, and characterization of a number of chemosensors based on Schiff bases and their reduction are described in this book. Here IR, NMR spectroscopies, and mass spectrometry studies have been reported for characterization of the compounds. UV-visible and fluorescence spectrophotometers were used to study the ion recognition property of these chemosensors with a large number of cations and anions. These chemosensors display significant selectivity towards Cu²⁺ and a few other hazardous heavy metals. However, one of the compounds has a strong UV and fluorescence sensitivity to alkali metals also.
