Numerical Computation for Differential Equations: Comprehensive Lecture Notes with Worked Examples

Differential equations play a central role in modeling phenomena in science, engineering, economics, and applied mathematics. Many real-world problems cannot be solved analytically, making numerical techniques essential for obtaining approximate solutions. Numerical Computation for Differential Equations: Comprehensive Lecture Notes with Worked Examples introduces the fundamental numerical methods used to solve differential equations and explains how these methods are applied in practice. The book is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying mathematics, engineering, and related disciplines. It is written in the form of structured lecture notes that present the material in a clear and logical manner. Each topic is developed gradually so that readers can follow the underlying ideas and understand how numerical procedures are constructed and used. The text begins with an introduction to differential equations and the need for numerical approaches. It then develops the principal numerical techniques used for solving initial value and boundary value problems. Topics covered include Euler’s method, modified Euler methods, Taylor series methods, and Runge–Kutta methods. The book also discusses numerical methods for systems of differential equations, finite difference techniques, and important concepts such as truncation error, stability, and convergence. Worked examples are included throughout the text to demonstrate the application of the methods step by step. These examples help readers understand the computational procedures involved and illustrate how numerical algorithms can be used to approximate solutions of differential equations. The book is suitable for courses in numerical analysis, scientific computing, and applied mathematics, and may also be used for independent study by students seeking a practical introduction to numerical methods for differential equations.
