Description
This is a stunning 8×11 facsimile of the original manuscript of Sha'ar HaTefilah from the Sefer Etz Chaim, written in the very handwriting of its author, Rabbi Chaim Vital זצ״ל. Rabbi Chaim Vital (1543–1620) was the foremost disciple of the Arizal, Rabbi Isaac Luria of Tzfas (Safed,) and the primary transmitter of the teachings of Lurianic Kabbalah. Nearly everything the world knows today about the Arizal’s revolutionary system of Jewish mysticism comes through the writings of Rabbi Chaim Vital. Despite the immense importance of these teachings in Jewish theology, very few works survive in the author’s own handwriting. This volume presents a rare opportunity to encounter one of the foundational texts of Kabbalah exactly as it was originally recorded. The pages reproduced here come directly from the autograph manuscript of Sha'ar HaTefilah, allowing the reader to see the text precisely as it emerged from the hand of Rabbi Chaim Vital himself. The reader can observe the original script, layout, marginal notes, and flow of the writing as they appeared in the seventeenth century manuscript tradition. Sha'ar HaTefilah occupies a central place within Etz Chaim, the monumental work that preserves the teachings of the Arizal. In these pages, prayer is revealed not merely as recitation but as a profound mystical process involving the interaction of divine names, spiritual worlds, and the inner structure of the sefirot. These teachings shaped centuries of Jewish mystical thought and continue to influence Kabbalistic study and prayer traditions to this day. Holding a facsimile such as this allows the reader to experience a direct historical connection to the great masters of Safed and the origins of Lurianic Kabbalah. Rather than encountering the text through later printed editions, most of which utilize later manuscripts by R Chaim's son and others, here the reader sees the living manuscript itself, the form in which these teachings were first preserved and transmitted. Printed in a large 8×11 format to preserve clarity and detail, this edition faithfully reproduces each page of the manuscript so that scholars, students, collectors, and lovers of Jewish history can study and appreciate this extraordinary document. Topics include: Lurianic Kabbalah, the Arizal, Rabbi Isaac Luria, Rabbi Chaim Vital manuscripts, Etz Chaim, Sha'ar HaTefilah, Safed Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism, Hebrew manuscripts, and the Kabbalistic structure of prayer. Part of the Echoes of History Series by Baal Shem Tov House, dedicated to bringing rare and important Jewish manuscripts back into public view and making the treasures of Jewish intellectual and spiritual history accessible to a new generation.
