Conversations in Global Anglican Theology: Activism

A new collection of thought-provoking essays explores the impact of the theory and practice of activism across the Anglican Communion. The Anglican Church has long faced criticism for its entanglement with privilege and institutional control. Yet woven into this complex history are voices of resistance―prophets and activists who stood in solidarity with those pushed to society’s edges. This groundbreaking volume brings those voices to life. Drawing on insights from Anglican theologians across the globe, this book uncovers stories of courageous witness―past and present―and offers practical wisdom for faithful activism today. It confronts the tension at the heart of Christian life: a church that venerates a heavenly Jesus while neglecting the radical, earthbound Jesus who defied powers and principalities. Rejecting disembodied spirituality, these essays chart a path toward responsible, embodied action. For anyone seeking to reconcile faith with justice, Conversations in Global Anglican Theology: Activism is both a challenge and an invitation: to see, to act, and to transform. Praise for the series: “A book like this is itself an act of faith.” ―Rowan Williams, Theologian and former Member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom “This… raises up the limitless energies of the people of God.” ―Samuel Wells, vicar, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and visiting professor of Christian ethics, King’s College, London "This challenging and illuminating group of essays offers a prismatic view into the history, diversity and promise of global Anglicanism." ―Mary C. Earle, Episcopal priest and faculty member at Oblate School of Theology, and author of The Desert Mothers: Spiritual Practices from the Women of the Wilderness
