When one part of Nigeria suffers, every part feels it. A region at war cannot trade freely. A region plagued by banditry cannot grow enough food. A region where young people are recruited into violence cannot build schools or hospitals. The suffering of Northern Nigeria is the suffering of Nigeria. This book does not avoid hard questions. We will look at who lived in Northern Nigeria before the 11th century, how people got along before Islam arrived, what changed when Islam came, and where things began to go wrong. We will look at what Islam actually teaches, and we will contrast that teaching with the violence committed in its name. Most importantly, this book will demonstrate clearly that the violence and conflict in Northern Nigeria today is NOT caused by Islam itself. It is caused by individuals and groups who have hijacked religion for their own selfish purposes — for power, for money, and for control. This distinction matters enormously. If we misdiagnose the cause of a disease, we will prescribe the wrong medicine. If we blame Islam for the violence of criminals who dress themselves in Islamic language, we will never solve the real problem. Understanding this difference is the first step toward peace. And peace is possible. This book exists to show how.
