About the Book The “Textbook on Fundamentals of Entomology” has been created based on the Sixth Dean Committee Report from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in New Delhi, to fulfil the needs of first-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students. It presents the subject of entomology in a structured, comprehensive, and easy-to-understand manner, aligning perfectly with the undergraduate curriculum followed by agricultural universities across India. The book is divided into nine sections and forty-five chapters, covering all fundamental aspects of insect science—including the history and classification of insects, their external and internal morphology, physiology, ecology, developmental biology, pest classification, integrated pest management, and chemical control. Each chapter concludes with a Glossary, comprising a total of around 2100 key entomological terms, enabling quick reference and reinforcement of technical vocabulary. The book also includes 37 black-and-white figures and 116 multicoloured plates, providing visual clarity and aiding conceptual understanding. Furthermore, references and suggested readings are incorporated at the end of each chapter to encourage further exploration and academic engagement. Special emphasis has been placed on presenting the material in a concise, lucid, and pedagogically sound style, making it equally suitable for classroom instruction and self-study. The inclusion of examples, illustrations, and simplified explanations ensures that students can grasp even complex topics with ease.
