The Different Faces of Trauma: The Courage to Leave it Behind

As I was writing this book… I was walking through one of my own deepest emotional challenges. I call them challenges now because that is what they are, trials that test every part of your being. Whether you are a mother or a father, experiences like this challenge your truth, your integrity, your loyalty, your humanity, and your identity. They threaten your sanity. They make you question everything you stand for. In those moments, it can feel as though the world itself wants to destroy you, to erase you, to snuff out everything that defines you. But here is what I have learned, and what I want to leave with you: I am a child of the only living God. I have been anointed to do His work, and no challenge no matter how overwhelming can undo that. He carried me through the pain, the confusion, and the isolation. He held me steady when everything around me seemed to crumble. Because of that, I will not lower my standards. I will not bend my integrity to fit worldly expectations. I am in this world, but I am not of this world. I walk with God, guided by His truth, strengthened by His presence, and anchored in His love. If others resent me for that, that is their loss not mine. And to every parent reading these pages: stand firm. You may face moments that feel impossible, moments that test your faith, your patience, and your love. But hold to truth. Uphold your integrity. Love without coercion, without compromise, and without fear. You cannot control the choices of others, but you can control who you are, how you act, and what you leave behind. Your perseverance, your dignity, and your unwavering commitment to what is right are the legacy you pass on not just to your children, but to the world around you. Let this be your strength: challenges may come, but they cannot break the heart that walks with God. And in that, you are never alone, never without purpose, and never without hope. With sincere understanding. Author’s Note This book was not written from a place of certainty, but from a place of listening. Listening to stories spoken aloud and to those carried quietly for years. Listening to pain that did not need fixing, only space to be named without shame. Much of what you have read was learned slowly. Through observation. Through unlearning. Through the sacred work of choosing truth even when it cost comfort. I have come to believe that trauma is not only what happens to us, but what happens inside us when dignity is lost, when truth is distorted, when love becomes conditional. Healing, then, is not about rewriting the past. It is about restoring what should never have been taken, voice, agency, and the right to feel safely. If you found yourself somewhere in these pages, know that this book was written with deep respect for your journey. Not to tell you what to do, but to remind you of what is possible. Some relationships heal through reunion. Some heal through release. Some heal quietly, without witnesses. All are valid. My hope is that these words offered you language where there was confusion, gentleness where there was judgment, and permission where there was silence.
