Understanding Political Science & Globalisation: Political Science

Book Summary: Understanding Political Science & Globalization Understanding Political Science & Globalization explores the fundamental principles of political science within the broader context of an increasingly interconnected world. The book delves into how politics, governance, and international relations are transformed by the processes of globalization — the growing interdependence among nations, economies, cultures, and societies. At its core, the book provides a structured overview of the key concepts of political science, including state formation, sovereignty, political ideologies, systems of government, public policy, and power dynamics. It examines classical and modern political theories, highlighting the evolution of governance from traditional state-centered politics to global governance networks influenced by multinational corporations, international organizations, and transnational movements. The discussion on globalization focuses on its multidimensional impacts — political, economic, cultural, and technological. It assesses how globalization reshapes the role of nation-states, challenges democratic accountability, and fosters both cooperation and conflict on issues such as trade, security, climate change, and human rights. The book also underscores the tension between global integration and local identity, exploring the rise of nationalism and populism as responses to perceived threats from globalization. Through case studies and comparative analysis, the book illustrates how global politics operate in the 21st century — from international institutions like the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and International Monetary Fund, to grassroots movements advocating for justice and equality across borders. It further discusses global power shifts, especially the emergence of multipolarity and the rise of new global players such as China, India, and regional blocs. Ultimately, Understanding Political Science & Globalization encourages readers to think critically about the interconnectedness of local and global political phenomena. It emphasizes that understanding modern politics requires both a grasp of political theory and an awareness of global forces shaping the contemporary world.
