Global Perspectives on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Mathematics Classrooms

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have become central themes in global conversations about educational reform, particularly within mathematics classrooms. As mathematics is often perceived as a neutral and universal subject, systemic biases and inequities within its teaching and learning are often overlooked. Across diverse contexts, students from marginalized backgrounds continue to face barriers that limit their access to quality math education. DEI principles embedded in math instruction create more inclusive, culturally responsive, and equitable learning environments. By examining policies, pedagogical practices, and curriculum reforms worldwide, educational organizations may reveal new strategies for fostering belonging and academic achievement. Global Perspectives on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Mathematics Classrooms explores the utilization of DEI in global mathematics classrooms, including various policies, reforms, curricula, and teaching practices. It addresses systemic inequalities, challenges dominant narratives, and provides innovative inclusive practices to empower teachers and learners. This book covers topics such as ethnomathematics, curriculum development, and multicultural education, and is a useful resource for educators, policymakers, sociologists, academicians, researchers, and scientists.
