Soviet infantry fighting vehicle in the Polish army The BWP-1 is a Soviet infantry fighting vehicle, adopted into service in the mid-1960s. Designed as the first mass-produced vehicle of its kind, it combined mobility, amphibious capabilities and stronger armament than previously used armored personnel carriers. The BMP-1 model became a widely exported design and for decades formed the backbone of mechanized formations in many armies around the world, including Poland. The first units arrived in Poland in 1973–1974. For a long time it was the basis of the Polish mechanized infantry forces, but in recent years it has become increasingly clear that its heyday is over. Poland has transferred many of its BWP-1s to fighting Ukraine. In our set we therefore give the builder a choice of Polish and Ukrainian vehicle markings! Armed and ready! In the basic version, the troop compartment accommodates four soldiers. Standard armament includes a 73 mm 2A28 Grom smoothbore cannon coupled with a PKT machine gun, as well as a 9M14 "Malutka" anti-tank guided missile launcher. Combat experience on many fronts! Combat experience highlighted its advantages, such as simple design, reliability and high mobility.
