Majosta The Officers of the SS and Waffen-SS: Volume 1 - Letter A

In this book, you will find the names of officers who served in the SS and Waffen-SS whose family names begin with the letter A. For each officer, we present all known details of their service. In addition, you will find their SS and NSDAP numbers, awards, marital status, and the number of children they had. Through this work, we also show how many officers were transferred between different branches within the SS—illustrating, among other things, that these men were political soldiers and an extension of Hitler and his ideology. Some officers played more significant roles, while others served in positions of little consequence. Nevertheless, they were all members of an organization that, after the war, became permanently associated with the crimes committed before and during the conflict. Not all officers were directly involved in war crimes, of course, but by being part of the SS they were indirectly part of the system that enabled them. This situation changed somewhat in the later years of the war, after Hitler and Himmler decided that from 1943 onward all foreign volunteers would be placed in the Waffen-SS. In the Baltic states, a general mobilization was also introduced, resulting in thousands of Estonians and Latvians being conscripted into the Waffen-SS—whether they wished to serve or not. Beyond a simple listing of officers, you will also find a number of more detailed biographies, providing deeper insight into where these men served. The total number of officers included in this volume is 1,373, of whom 873 are accompanied by photographs.
