Description

EPC.App is an annotated European Patent Convention (EPC), which focuses on finding the most relevant information quickly, as required e.g. in an exam situation. All articles, rules and protocols of the EPC as well as the Rules relating to Fees are fully reproduced. These are provided with selected abstracts from the Examination Guidelines, Official Journal articles and case law, as well as numerous annotations with cross-references. For quick access, parts of the EPC are provided with an edge index visible on the closed book’s edge, articles are always started at the top of a page, and related rules of the Implementing Regulations are assigned to the articles. The commenting is performed in a two-column layout, which allows non-disrupted reading of the legal texts in the left column, as well as authors’ comments assigned to the individual paragraphs in the right column. Authors' comments are generally kept in a short style, reduced to the essentials, so as to avoid distraction by less important information. Further to this end, a targeted selection of the contents has been made instead of collecting all conceivable details. Comments can also be found as short references within the legal texts, as well as below them in the form of bullet-point summaries of the legal situation. The texts are further provided with markings of important key terms, time limits, fees, languages, and legal consequences. Independently of this printed version, the entire content of the EPC.App is also available as an electronic book implemented as a web browser application (App), which provides the content in colour with an individually adaptable colour layout for the markings. Via the App, users can edit the content (e.g. remove individual authors’ markings or comments and add own ones), have their adaptations saved in a personal cloud storage, access and navigate the annotated EPC from anywhere via an internet connection, receive automatic updates of legal texts and authors' comments without losing own user comments, and create a printable PDF-file, which includes all self-edited annotations and closely reproduces the layout displayed on the web browser, corresponding to this printed version. The November 2025 Edition has been updated to the legal status valid as of 1 November 2025 and is dedicated for use in the European Qualifying Examination 2026.
