Comic Book SRW: Third Edition: Stain Removal and Whitening (Comic Book CPR Guidebooks)

Comic Book SRW: Third Edition is a supplemental guidebook to the bestselling title, Comic Book CPR. This latest edition includes updated corrections and refinements developed with input from industry professionals in the field of comic book conservation. This full-color illustrated guide is intended strictly for advanced users who are already familiar with pressing comic books and correcting higher-level defects. The author of this guide has dedicated countless hours to testing each method outlined to ensure safe, repeatable, and proven techniques designed to deliver consistent results. After reviewing extensive research papers, scientific studies, and medical journals—and consulting with leaders in conservation science—the author has developed science-backed methods grounded in chemistry and material science that target paper fibers commonly found in comic books, posters, toy packaging, video game boxes, and similar collectibles. No disassembly is required when performing the procedures in this guide. Learn how to use a controlled light box system to whiten and brighten comic book covers and interior pages through a process known as photobleaching. Discover an innovative way to utilize your existing press to reduce foxing, tanning, and tide lines. Implement advanced overlay sheet techniques to remove stains and restore visual appeal. Incorporate new underlay sheet methods for standard pressing applications and for correcting oversaturation issues. When combined properly, the techniques in this guide are designed to help you achieve the highest possible grades when submitting to third-party grading companies. Written in the same structured format as Comic Book CPR, this edition features full-color pictorials, procedural walkthroughs, practical tips, and real-world examples. Identify past errors, prevent future mistakes, and follow detailed formula sheets for precise execution. Two Stain Matrix Diagrams clearly outline treatment effectiveness, and all pages are color-coded for clarity and ease of reference for experienced cleaners and pressers. Note: There is always inherent risk when performing advanced conservation techniques. Excessive application may result in a conserved (grey) or restored (purple) label from third-party grading companies. When applied within the recommended guidelines, however, these procedures are engineered safely to improve overall condition and presentation.
