Comic Book CPR: First Edition: A Beginner's Guide to Achieving Expert Results (Comic Book CPR Guidebooks)

Comic Book CPR: First Edition is the ultimate beginner’s guide to cleaning and pressing comic books—an essential skill for collectors who want to boost grades, eye appeal, and value without paying costly third-party pressers. For years, pressing and cleaning comics were considered underground skills that only professionals or grading companies had access to. Now, collectors at every level can learn these techniques at home and transform their own books — saving thousands of dollars while boosting grades, improving eye appeal, and protecting their collections. Pressing is more than just flattening pages. It’s a careful process that uses controlled heat, humidity, and pressure to remove bends, wrinkles, spine ticks, and warping. When done correctly, a comic can look dramatically better—and often receive a higher grade. This book walks you through every step of the process in clear, easy-to-follow language, showing you how to build and use your own humidity tank, how to safely press comics with the right equipment, and how to avoid the common mistakes that can permanently damage a book. Comic pressing is only half the story. You’ll also learn the basics of dry cleaning: safe methods for removing dirt, smudges, and stains that can make your comics look new again. You’ll discover how to tell the difference between pressable and unpressable defects, how to recognize restoration, and how to pre-screen your comics before sending them off to be graded. These skills will help you protect your investment, avoid unnecessary risks, and observe pressing potential at a glance. To make things even easier, this beginner’s edition is filled with extra full-color photos, detailed charts, inspection forms, and an all-new flow chart that shows you exactly what to do and when. Each section is color-coded and beginner-friendly, making it simple to find what you need at a glance. Real-world examples highlight both successes and common mistakes, so you can learn from the experiences of others while gaining the confidence to practice on your own books. You’ll also benefit from insights shared by some of today’s leading independent pressers, who provide professional tips, warnings, and insider advice that most collectors never get to hear. From understanding grading notes, to fixing past mistakes, to preventing future damage, our guidance will give you an extra edge as you develop your skills. Whether you’re just starting out with your very first comic collection or you’ve been collecting for years and want to take things to the next level, Comic Book CPR: First Edition is your all-in-one beginner’s guide. You’ll learn how to care for your comics the right way, improve their condition safely, and get the most out of your collection—without ever sending your books away or relying on costly third-party pressing services.
