Description

Step back to the early ’90s – an unforgettable era of pure pop, euphoric dancefloor anthems, soaring ballads and alternative classics. NOW Yearbook 1991 features 43 unforgettable tracks across a 3-LP set, pressed on bright yellow vinyl. LP1 opens with a superstar double and two massive #1s: George Michael and Elton John’s monumental live duet ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’ and Chesney Hawkes’ defining debut ‘The One And Only’. Roxette’s worldwide smash ‘Joyride’ is up next along with R.E.M.’s alt-pop classic ‘Shiny Happy People’. Seal makes his solo debut with the unforgettable ‘Crazy’, and Beverly Craven enjoyed her chart debut with ‘Promise Me’. “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” was a huge hit musical in ’91, and Andrew Lloyd Webber & Jason Donovan hit the top with ‘Any Dream Will Do’…Flip the LP over for amazing new talent enjoying chart smashes in the early ‘90s... One of The KLF’s run of superb single gems ‘3AM Eternal’ kicks things off, followed by The Prodigy with their breakthrough ‘Charly’, while Saint Etienne reimagine Neil Young on ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’. Martika’s Prince-penned ‘Love… Thy Will Be Done’ is followed by sophisticated pop from Pet Shop Boys with ‘Jealousy’ and Marc Almond’s fabulous cover of ‘Jacky’ and the first LP closes with ‘Sailing On The Seven Seas’ from Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark which saw them back in the Top 3. LP2 opens with a truly timeless anthem - The Waterboys’ ‘The Whole Of The Moon’ – re-released six years after its’ original release to become a huge hit. Deacon Blue with ‘Twist And Shout’ leads into The Railway Children’s biggest hit ‘Every Beat Of The Heart’, and James’ ‘Sit Down’ captured the era’s wave of infectious indie-pop hitting #2. Boy George’s band Jesus Loves You enjoyed a hit with ‘Bow Down Mister’, before Whitney Houston delivers vocal brilliance on ‘All The Man That I Need’, and Oleta Adams’ timeless ‘Get Here’ closes the side…and over on Side 2… Simply Red open with ‘Stars’ – the title track from the years’ biggest selling album ahead of Crowded House with ‘Fall At Your Feet’. At the start of ’91 Sting hit #1 in the albums chart with ‘The Soul Cages’ and its’ first single ‘All This Time’ is up next along side Robert Palmer’s medley of two Marvin Gaye classics ‘Mercy Mercy Me / I Want You’. The LP moves toward its’ close with Lenny Kravitz, and trans-atlantic hit ballads from Paula Abdul and Gloria Estefan. LP3 opens with a stellar run of pure pop gold: Pet Shop Boys open with their ingenious mash-up ‘Where The Streets Have No Name (I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You)’ - making their second appearance on this Yearbook – as are The KLF joined this time by Tammy Wynette on the fantastic ‘Justified And Ancient’. Dance-pop smashes from Kylie Minogue, Bananarama and Cathy Denis are featured ahead of Belinda Carlisle, and Divinyls who deliver great US power pop hits. Closing the side is The Clash’s enduring ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’, as we celebrate it becoming a #1 nearly 9 years after its’ original chart run… and over on the final side Cher’s chart-topping ‘The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss)’ opens ahead of huge dancefloor cuts from C+C Music Factory with ‘Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)’ and Brothers In Rhythm’s euphoric ‘Such A Good Feeling’. Next up soulful vocals from Lisa Stansfield with ‘Change’ and Tina Turner’ with ‘Way Of The World’ – one of the new tracks on her ‘91 ‘Simply The Best’ compilation…. and it’s left to Extreme with their acoustic US #1 ‘More Than Words’, and Scorpions’ ‘Wind Of Change’ to close the collection in anthemic style. NOW Yearbook 1991 – a celebration of the diversity and wonderful creativity of a magical year in pop.
