Dark times break over the kingdom of Thebes. The blind, old king Oedipus left the throne in disgrace, asking Polyneikes and Eteocles to rule over the city together. But power corrupts, and age-old feuds require new bloodshed. Soon Polyneikes leads an army from the rival town of Argos against his own brother. The Theban nobles support Eteocles as he upholds his precarious rule over Thebes. The young king summons defenders to occupy the seven city gates while the seven heroes of the invaders lead the attack on the gates. Meanwhile, the famous citadel of Thebes, Kadmea, lies in ruins. It is as if fate itself has set everything against the current rulers of Thebes. While the simple people prepare for war, the noble families whisper among each other that the time has come for a new leadership and the time has come to rebuild Kadmea. In Thebai, players slip into the role of influential leaders Bulent Late Bronze Age. Over the course of the game, players must rebuild Cadmea, the citadel of Thebes, restore the exports of the city, pray to the gods of the city and protect the lives of citizens, while great heroes shed their blood at the gates. The game lasts 10 rounds, each divided into an action and a fate phase. In the action phase, players use a civic cube and then move their archon to Cadmea. In the fate phase, players get additional points depending on their achievements and the protection of the city gates. After the final scoring, the player with the most victory points wins.
