This 30-day Power BI plan is designed as a structured, incremental journey that takes you from zero exposure to Power BI all the way through to building and deploying a complete, enterprise-grade BI solution. Over thirty focused lessons, you will progress through four main pillars: data acquisition and transformation, data modeling and calculation, visualization and interactivity, and deployment and administration. By following this roadmap, you’ll develop a holistic skill set that covers Power Query, DAX, data modeling best practices, advanced analytics, security, and integration with both Power BI Service and Azure. In the first week, you learn why Power BI matters in the broader BI lifecycle, starting with installing Power BI Desktop, configuring regional and data-load options, and navigating the interface. You then connect to a variety of data sources—Excel, CSV, SQL Server, and web APIs—understanding the trade-offs between Import and DirectQuery. Once the data is loaded, you dive into Power Query Editor for day-to-day transformations: renaming columns, setting data types, filtering, grouping, pivoting, merging, and appending queries to shape your raw data into analysis-ready tables. Days 6 through 9 focus on data modeling and an introduction to DAX. You learn to differentiate Fact and Dimension tables, create one-to-many relationships, design a proper star schema, and build a robust Date table. You also begin writing basic calculated columns and measures, understanding the difference between row context (calculated columns) and filter context (measures). This foundation allows you to write aggregations like SUM(), AVERAGE(), and DISTINCTCOUNT(), as well as simple CALCULATE() filters. The second week deepens your DAX skills with time intelligence (e.g., TOTALYTD(), SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR(), PARALLELPERIOD()) and advanced patterns using FILTER(), iterators like SUMX(), and context transition. You also explore parent-child hierarchies with PATH() functions and learn how to optimize your DAX code with VAR/RETURN for better readability and performance. Meanwhile, you create basic visuals—bar charts, line graphs, tables, and slicers—before moving on to advanced visuals like maps, scatter plots with Play Axis, and custom visuals from AppSource. In week three, the emphasis shifts to interactive features and security. You implement drillthrough pages, custom report-page tooltips, and bookmarks with buttons for guided navigation. You learn both static RLS (predefined roles) and dynamic RLS using USERPRINCIPALNAME() and lookup tables, ensuring that each user only sees the data they’re permitted to view. The final ten days cover Power BI Service, sharing, and advanced enterprise scenarios. You publish reports to workspaces, create and distribute Apps, configure scheduled refresh with on-premises Data Gateway, and optimize model size by hiding unused columns and reducing cardinality. You also design mobile layouts, embed reports in SharePoint or via Publish-to-Web, and leverage Power BI Dataflows for centralized ETL. Advanced topics include setting up incremental refresh for large fact tables, using Performance Analyzer to optimize slow measures and visuals, and integrating with Excel (live connections and paginated reports via Report Builder).
