The Pearl Eater is both elegy and offering, centering the artist’s own death mask—her face as it existed moments before facial feminization surgery. Strung with 28 baroque pearls, the sculpture stands at an imposing 9 feet, towering yet intimate, like a monument to transformation. Porcelain, horsehair, wood, and glass come together in a fragile alchemy, holding the weight of what was and what must be let go. This is a ritual, a sending-off: the artist’s former self placed into an astral space, a liminal rest. The shimmering pearls act as votives, honoring the tension between grief and joy, destruction and creation.
