Witness 27 Simulation Modeling: Rational Process Design

Royal HaskoningDHV released the latest update to their WITNESS process simulation software, WITNESS 27, in 2024. WITNESS 27 includes many enhancements from prior releases. These improvements build upon Witness’s strengths in modeling discrete event and flow processes. Some of these capabilities? Best in class capability to model multicycle machines, model machine breakdowns with multiple breakdown causes, each with independent frequencies of occurrence and repair durations, and finally modeling internal and external setup activities. To facilitate digital twinning, WITNESS HORIZON can both receive data from external sources and supply data as an output. These interactions can be with Microsoft Excel and Access as well as through SQL. This fully color illustrated edition of WITNESS 27 Simulation Modeling: Rational Process Design provides an introduction to manufacturing process design and simulation modeling. Hundreds of illustrations were updated to reflect the new Witness 27 user interface. More than being just a simple explanation of the mechanics of developing simulation models, there is a significant focus on the use of Axiomatic Design for manufacturing processes and building stochastic simulation models based on a strong foundation of process and product functional requirements. The author’s approach is conversational with occasional humorous asides, taking the reader through a series of realistic exercises that are illustrated step-by-step. This edition also features many new high-resolution illustrations. The eight chapters of exercises sequentially build knowledge, experience and the modeler’s self-confidence. One would certainly be reluctant to learn to ride a bicycle from reading a book.
