NR12 applies to all machinery and equipment used across industries in Brazil, establishing mandatory requirements to ensure worker safety at every stage of a machine's lifecycle. This includes the design, manufacturing, import, installation, use, maintenance, and decommissioning phases. As a comprehensive standard, NR12 addresses physical, electrical, mechanical, and ergonomic safety elements, making it one of Brazil's most detailed safety regulations. The standard is enforced on all machinery used in Brazil, including newly manufactured, imported, used, leased, or rented equipment. This wide scope requires international companies exporting machinery to Brazil to adapt and align with NR12 requirements, even if their machinery complies with other global standards like the EU Machinery Directive or ANSI standards in the U.S. This edition includes the latest version (March 2024) of NR12.
