Fuji Single Blended Japanese Whisky is a rare style: a single-distillery blend of malt and grain whiskies, made exclusively at Fuji-Gotemba Distillery, at the foot of Mt Fuji. Bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl format, it’s designed for effortless sipping and bright, balanced cocktails. Fuji-Gotemba has produced both malt and grain whisky since its inception in 1973, carrying out the full journey from mashing and fermentation through distillation, maturation and bottling on site. Kirin launched Japanese Whisky Fuji in 2020 as the distillery’s flagship brand, with the Single Blended joining the core range in 2022. This release is a no-age-statement expression. In the glass, expect a delicately fruity, floral profile. Notes of peach, apricot and orange liqueur lead the aroma, backed by hints of honey and oatmeal cookies. The palate is silky and layered, showing pear tart, white-flower honey and orchard fruits, with a long finish that weaves in citrus peel, rosehip and gentle spice. Judges have also highlighted tropical mango, melon and citrus on the nose, with delicate stone fruits and sweet hay on the palate, balanced by subtle coconut and grassy freshness. Ex-bourbon cask maturation is a key part of the style, contributing coconut, dried apricot and peach notes alongside a clean, rounded sweetness. Serve it your way. Enjoy neat in a tulip glass to appreciate the aromatics, or over one large cube for a softer, slower sip. For a classic Japanese Highball, pour 45ml over plenty of ice, top with 120ml chilled sparkling soda, stir once and finish with a lemon twist.
