Description

In 1982, designer Bruce Kilgore set out to create a basketball shoe that would stand out for its looks. At the time, he was the first to use Air technology in basketball shoes. He added the famous circular pattern on the outsole, which anchors the toe of the foot to the floor for perfect pivoting. There's also the famous ankle strap to tighten the shoe, which somewhat polarized the public in terms of the shoe's appearance. Nike didn't have any big plans for the AF-1, so they discontinued production after two years. But sneakerheads' appetite for the Air Force 1 was too great to ignore. Before the shoes returned to production in 1986, there was a costume boom, with customers eager to adapt the AF-1 to their image. Nike had unwittingly opened a new sneaker horizon on the East Coast. Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, and especially Harlem loved the AF-1 and dubbed it "Uptown." The most popular color combination to this day is still white on white, despite the shoes having received countless collaborations with artists such as Kanye West, Nas, and Rakim.
