Carnets d’atelier (2011-2017) contient une centaine de planches de Fabienne Verdier, mixte de collages, de dessins et de textes. Il est le deuxième tome de l’édition de ses carnets, couvrant les années 2011 à 2017, ainsi que deux grands projets, l’un autour des tableaux des maîtres flamands, l’autre autour du dictionnaire analogique Le Robert et de son regretté maître d'œvreAlain Rey. Réalisé parallèlement à son travail pictural, ce journal de bord nous permet d’entrer dans son processus de création. Conçu comme un commentaire élaboré en symbiose avec les œuvres d’autres artistes, écrivains et scientifiques, l’ouvrage se veut une proposition ouverte, autorisant une autre lecture de l’histoire de l’art, à partir d’un regard fondé sur l’analogie, qui renouvelle notre pensée sur la nature. Le texte de chaque planche est transcrit et prolongé par des textes faisant écho à ceux de l’artiste, qui décrit ainsi sa démarche : « Semblable à l’alternance du sommeil et de la veille, parfois je peins, parfois je lis et j’écris. Après mon expérience en Chine, relatée dans Passagère du silence, voici en ÉCHO. Carnets d’atelier (2011-2017) quelques intuitions qui résonnent en moi. Fille de l’air et de la terre, j’observe les forces à l’oeuvre dans la nature qui engendrent les formes. Celles-ci retentissent dans les oeuvres d’art et permettent d’élaborer de nouvelles théories scientifiques. Tantôt ce sont les textes, tantôt les images de l’Antiquité à nos jours qui nous guident dans ce livre de bord, conçu comme un dialogue avec mes contemporains. »
