Description

In 1985, the music scene in Seattle was in the early stages of what eventually became known internationally as grunge. The first recorded evidence of this emerging sound was the Deep Six compilation released in 1986 on the Seattle-based C/Z Records. Of the 6 bands on that record, only two had ever released anything previously: the legendary U-Men and Green River (the band that would spawn both Mudhoney and Pearl Jam). The other 4 bands had never been heard outside of the city. It was Deep Six that ex-posed the world to the first recordings by Soundgarden, Melvins, Malfunkshun...and Skin Yard. Skin Yard was formed in Seattle in January 1985 by Daniel House (bass), and Jack Endino (guitar). They were joined by Matthew Cameron on drums who had previously played with House in an instrumental power trio in 1984 called FEEdbACK. Over the course of 6 years and 4 LPs, there were 4 distinct drummers who appeared on their recordings: Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam), Jason Finn (Presidents of the United States of America, Love Battery), Norman Scott (Gruntruck with Skin Yard singer, Ben McMillan) and Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season and Walking Papers with Duff McKagan). C/Z Records is excited to be releasing SKIN YARD SELECT, a limited-edition (1,000 copies) collection of 7 individual colored-vinyl 45s in a custom heavy-duty slipcase. ALL FOUR Skin Yard drummers will be included between the 14 songs contained on Skin Yard Select. One never-released song from 1985 with Matt Cameron on drums. Two remixes new to this collection. Two alternate versions. ALL songs mixed and remastered by Jack Endino, the band's guitarist (well known for producing records by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Mark Lanegan, Afghan Whigs, Babes in Toyland, L7, Seven Year Bitch, Green River, TAD, The Fluid and dozens more).
