Qart Hadasht (Carthage): Rising from the ruins

The title of the book is "Qart Hadasht (Carthage): Rising from the Ruins." In this comprehensive work, the author seeks to illuminate a significant historical aspect of Carthage that has been overshadowed and forgotten due to the West's longstanding favoritism toward the Romans and a prevailing allegiance to Western narratives. This perspective is particularly relevant as it challenges commonly accepted historical accounts that often marginalize the achievements and contributions of Carthaginian civilization. The book delves into the archaeology of Carthage, examining what has been preserved over time through artifacts, structures, and inscriptions from the Mediterranean regions that Carthage once dominated. The author meticulously analyzes archaeological findings, shedding light on the daily lives, trade practices, and cultural richness of the Carthaginian people. This includes a discussion on the significance of various inscriptions found in sites across Tunisia, Spain, and Italy, which provide valuable insights into Carthaginian history and its interactions with neighboring cultures. In addition to archaeological evidence, the author incorporates modern scientific methods from biology and geology. Through the analysis of skeletal remains and environmental samples collected from various historical Carthaginian sites, the book reveals new findings about health, diet, and the demographic changes within Carthaginian society. This multidisciplinary approach enriches the historical narrative and provides a more nuanced understanding of Carthage's legacy. The author further compares this historical perspective with primary source texts that historians have long appreciated, drawing connections between ancient writings and contemporary archaeological evidence. This comparative analysis highlights how historical interpretations can shift when viewed through different lenses, emphasizing the importance of reevaluating established narratives. Through in-depth research, the author uncovers numerous attempts in Europe, particularly during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, by certain academics and historians to link the roots of the original languages of Ireland (Gaelic) and France (Gaulish) to Carthage. These attempts reflect a broader effort to understand the linguistic and cultural connections across Europe and North Africa. However, the author argues that these efforts were obscured and marginalized, leaving valuable research in the shadows of historical discourse. The book, an English translation of the original Arabic version, consists of 12 chapters, each exploring both historical and scientific aspects of Carthage. These chapters uncover hidden facts that have been deliberately overlooked, addressing several key themes.
