Description

Cockburn's was founded in 1815 by the Scottish brothers Robert and John Cockburn. Originally wine merchants in Scotland, their Port house was founded with the objective of securing a supply of excellent wine at its source which would given them an advantage over the influx of poor quality, cheap Port which was so common in the UK at the time. In the words of Robert Cockburn himself, "the quality of the wine - that is the first thing to be looked to". In 1962, Cockburn's was purchased by a multinational corporation and the quality of the wine began to wane somewhat. Following the Symington family's acquisition of Cockburn's in 2010, and the company's return to family ownership, focus has been shifted back to one thing: the quality of the wine. Since 2010, Cockburn's has won a number of awards and medals reflecting the stated Symington family aim of putting Cockburn's back where it belongs.

Key Features

The information below applies to each unit in the pack

Cockburn's is the market leading Port brand in the UK. LBV Ports are wines of a single very good year that age in large oak vats for 4-6 years until they reach the perfect level of maturity. LBV's are then bottled and ready to be enjoyed. Cockburn's LBV is a rich and full-bodied Port wine, perfect to serve at the end of a fine lunch or dinner.

A deep ruby colour, this wine has an excellent nose of ripe red fruits. On the palate it is powerful, with intense flavours of blackcurrant and jammy notes. A great balance between fruit, acidity and firm tannins leads to a long, elegant, and slightly drier finish. Cockburn's LBV also pairs wonderfully with chocolate desserts and hard cheeses.
