DreadLore Corebook: A tabletop roleplaying game

DreadLore is a tabletop roleplaying game which promotes cinematic, cooperative storytelling and Player agency. DreadLore uses a reward system which encourages Players to play Characters they actually want to play, working towards goals which make sense within the story instead of the mechanics. The system places their Characters in the heart of the stories being told rather than the sidelines. Players make decisions which always affect the fiction (good or bad) and the Arbiter (storyteller) folds these actions into the fiction. Everyone benefits mechanically when a Player achieves a goal. This Corebook contains all game system rules, notes and examples of game play, and inspiring artwork. It is filled with all you need to run your own games in many different genres and settings, build Characters, monsters, equipment, vehicles, and more. This Corebook also includes an original “Fantasy Punk” Setting called Craster. Craster is detailed in depth with lore about the world, politics, geography, as well as a Bestiary. This game is designed for dreamers, storytellers, and creatives. Players must make choices and so are given a great deal of agency over the fiction. They “Bid” their Character Traits (resources) to affect the fiction and achieve their desired outcome. If the Arbiter deems that an action is difficult or opposed, Players have to Throw Down (dice) and are hoping to achieve more “Successes” than a target Threshold. The Arbiter decides the stakes for success, failure, or meeting the Threshold, however the fiction is affected in any case – just not necessarily as intended. Players and the Arbiter (referee) go back and forth to build an amazing, cooperative story.
