Description

Production years: 1988-1994 The Munich Philharmonic and Sergiu Celibidache combines an impressive heritage. Celibidache has been chief conductor of the orchestra for a total of 17 years since 1979, a time when the orchestra gained great international reputation and became known worldwide. This legendary recording includes the recordings of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 23 together with pianist Daniel Barenboim and the rehearsing of the piano concerto by Prokofiew. Celibidache shied away from the public, and his demand for extended rehearsal times for a concert was something that broadcasters' orchestras generally could only approach. An exception was regularly the Munich Philharmonic, whose music director Celibidache was from 1979 until his death. Celibidache deliberately allowed very few commercial recordings (and those date back to the 1950s). Yet he allowed - perhaps paradoxically - that his concerts were broadcast, filmed and archived on the radio, and that the samples were also recorded, so that we can still follow the work of the maestro today. Munich Philharmonic, Sergiu Celibidache: Debussy: Iberia, 1994. Munich Philharmonic, Sergiu Celibidache: Debussy: Prelude a l'apres midi d'un faune, 1994. Munich Philharmonic, Sergiu Celibidache: Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 From the New World, 1991 Münchner Philharmoniker, Sergiu Celibidache: Prokofiev: Symphonie Classique, 1988 (rehearsal and concert) Munich Philharmonic, Sergiu Celibidache: Ravel: Boléro, 1994. Munich Philharmonic, Sergiu Celibidache: Ravel: Alborada del gracioso, 1994. Munich Philharmonic, Sergiu Celibidache: Ravel: Rapsodie espagnole, 1994. Münchner Philharmoniker, Sergiu Celibidache, Daniel Barenboim: Schumann: Piano Concerto Op. 54, 1991 Münchner Phiharmoniker, Sergiu Celibidache, Daniel Barenboim: Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No.1, 1991
