Resistance to the diagnosis of bipolar disorder in children stems in part from the fact that many clinicians have simply been taught by their training programs that they may only encounter one or two children in their entire career that live with bipolar disorder. Or, they have been taught that bipolar doesn’t exist in young children at all. But, for decades the literature in peer reviewed journals unequivocally supports that bipolar can be diagnosed in childhood. Early intervention is the best tool for the long term successful treatment of mental illness. CMHRC believes that through early, accurate diagnosis and the implementation of effective treatment plans based on reputable research, children with these disorders have the best chance of achieving long term stability. Detailed information about bipolar disorder in childhood, symptom identification, and treatment can be found in this book.
