Resistance to the diagnosis of bipolar disorder in children stems in part from the fact that many clinicians have simply been taught by their training programs that they may only encounter one or two children in their entire career that live with bipolar disorder. Or, they have been taught that bipolar doesn’t exist in young children at all. Early intervention is the best tool for the long term successful treatment of mental illness.
