It also represented many other firsts in design and technology and was the aircraft responsible for turning the tide of air combat in favor of the United States during the Korean War. Overview The F-86 Sabre is one of the most iconic and recognizable fighter aircraft ever built. Lieutenant Jim Thompson was credited with shooting down two MiGs during that time, one of which had a dragon painted on the side.
