Arnold is a toy manufacturer founded on 4; October 1906 by Karl Arnold in Nuremberg; the company specialising in tin toys produced boats and dollhouses until the Second World War, when the factory was completely destroyed; it became known mainly by the introduction of the model railway series Arnold Rapido in 1962. scale 1 in scale 1 160 with a gauge of 9 mm: this was the birth of the N scale

From 1960 to 1962, production consisted of a series of small 1:200 scale "Rapido 200" trains, more toy train than model railway; however, from 1962 onwards, the company turned to the production of real model railways and became reference N production from 1970; in 1966. 4 was the N-scale recognised as the NEM standard and later adopted the "Rapido coupling" as the European standard for the scale. In 1995 the company was purchased by Rivarossi and in 2004 by Hornby PLC
