February, 1921, after a year of fighting, the French gendarmes withdrew from Aintab, Turkey, leaving the few remaining Armenians without aid, protection or means of reparations. 1921 found Khoren Ouzounian in Aleppo, aiding Joseph W. Booth, an American missionary, as he worked to free 50 Armenians in Turkey and bringing them to Aleppo. The journal picks up on December 18, after the remaining Armenian refugees have arrived in Aleppo. They must all work to forge a new life after the Armenian Genocide (The UN did not define genocide until 1946 - what the Armenians experienced twenty years before meets the criteria for genocide). Truly a Rosetta Stone for our time, this book contains the journal in Khoren's original Armeno-Turkish (transcribed), English and modern Turkish. It also includes excerpts of twelve volumes of journals from Joseph W. Booth (1899-1927), periodicals from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and correspondence between the Armenians left in Aintab and the Americans who would eventually help to free them.
