CHARACTERISTICS: Helleborus Niger, also known as the Christmas Rose, are semi-evergreen outdoor plants with mounds of dark green, leathery foliage and large white, bowl-shaped flowers which begin to bloom in winter.

GROWTH AND SPREAD: These garden plants can reach an ultimate height and spread of approximately 0.1-0.5 metres.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE: Plant Christmas Rose plants in moist, well-drained soil in a partially shaded area. Damaged foliage can be pruned back as flowers begin to bloom. Wear gloves when handling as skin irritation can occur.

PERIOD OF INTEREST: Semi-evergreen foliage remains on the plant for most of the year, whilst flowers begin to bloom in January and can continue until late winter or early spring.
