During the 70´s-90´s the mechanics in orthodontics and the combined work together with different dental specialities was in the focus of fantastic orthodontists like Ricketts, Andrews, Burstone, Alexander, Bennett, McLaughlin, Kokich, Zachrisson and Proffit, to name just a few. Fantastic improvements in knowledge were achieved, still being the foundation of what we (should) do today. The past two decades of the current century were different. They became extremely sales industry driven and product focused. Now a new era has just started with a focus on 3d printing, new materials and regaining the control over appliances and treatment mechanics back from large orthodontic companies. But again, there is a tendency for many to jump with mindcuffs on every upcoming idea. Psychologists call it the “shiny object syndrome”. It is so easy to avoid it: Join the community of LeanOrthodontics®️ and learn to think like a scientist (again). “Let´s bring the science back to clinical orthodontics!” Expect regular updates and sometimes changes. This is how life goes. When better evidence is available, proving a technique, a method or a famous paper wrong, then it is the time for the real LeanOrthodontist to push the ego aside, change the mind and apply what is best practice.
